The Gore-Tex Experience tour sees Dave Macleod tackle 8 pitches of steep granite in order to produce the first free ascent of Bongo Bar, graded E* or French 7c.
Recalling events on his blog Dave had this to say “I launched up the pitch, climbing smoothly at first but wobbling into the crux and seriously losing my cool. I looked behind me for the crucial thumb press; it was wet, and so was the foothold.”
“There was no time for hesitation and as I began to slip off backwards I threw my right hand across the corner without enough time to look for the hold first. Two fingers caught it and with a grunt I stayed on and continued with ‘Elvis leg’ all the way to the ledge.”
The Gore-Tex Experience tour was a competition which offered to give the winners a chance to explore Norway’s Northern reaches with Dave Macleod.
Dave commented on the pitch having the best granite he has climbed anywhere. Hmmm, holiday to Norway it is then.
The entire tour is being documented and will be turned into a full length feature, if you can’t wait that long here some snippets of the climbs:
