The Rab Mountain Marathon is in its 5th year now and this year looks to be another top event. Organized by Dark & White Challenge events the marathon will be held on the 24th and 25th of September at a location in that will be disclosed a month before the event. 2010 marathon took place in the North East Lake District which featured stunning scenery and (luckily) good weather. This proved to be excellent conditions for a high quality of competitive running. The event is suitable for walkers and fell runners of all calibres, meaning you can go full tilt orcasually take in the glorious scenery between checkpoints.
The Challenge is based on Fell Runner Association rules and being a marathon/navigation event. Fitness, strategy and navigational skills will be key in this event as the courses are set on a score basis with a time limit. Additionally you have to be self sufficient for the two days so you will have to carry all your gear while crossing this terrain, for the Saturday there will be a remote campsite for you to pitch and tend to your blisters before the next day’s assault.
The numbers of entrants are limited for the mountain marathon so if you want to take par its best to get you applications in early. Applications are available from Dark and White and by following the links on the Rab website.
