Sheffield is going to be home to yet another outdoor festival this October with Alpkit’s The Big Shakeout festival. This 3 day event is promising to be the UK’s most exciting adventure festival which will be based in the Peak District.
The adult ticket will cost you £40 for the weekend, £20 for 3-16 year olds with free entry for the under threes. This gets you a pitch for the full weekend, the big event meal provided by Scott’s Catering and access to the parties in the alpine bar later in the evening. Also included in your pass will be a selection of films, lectures and live music based around the Thornbridge hub.
Alongside the basic package you can also book slots on the School of Adventure Activities which cover the basics of outdoor sports such as Off Road Bike Packing. Aidan Harding adds his experience to this class where streamlining, weight distribution and multi-day bike rides will be the order of the day, or there’s the Classic Climbs Tick List which will add focus to your climb seeking.
There will also be lectures and tutorials on various subjects. Shauna Coxsey (Cliffhanger bouldering comp. entrant) will be holding a bouldering master class, Johnny Dawes (Stone Monkey) will be offering coaching at a local crag in the Peak District and for those not on the climbing frame of mind, Ed Oxley (Singletrack magazine regular) will be handing out useful bike pointers while guiding you through some of the local trails. These sessions will be limited and have to be booked and paid for separately so get booking to avoid disappointment.
The event will cater for those with young ones by offering parent and child versions of some of the fun activities so that no one feels left out.
As with most of these events there will also be various stalls and deals on the go with various demos for bivi bags round the campfire being particularly notable.
The Big Shakeout will take place on the weekend of the 14th – 16th of October. You can’t do any of the activities without a ticket, so if you want to book or just to find out more go here.
